Brahim Diaz increased his tally to five goals in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring once again on Friday night to help Morocco secure a 2-0 victory over Cameroon at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, sending the hosts through to the semi-finals.
As anticipated, Morocco controlled the match for the majority of the game, with the Atlas Lions’ first goal arriving in the 26th minute. Diaz made contact with a header from Ayoub El Kaabi, which was heading towards the net.
The Real Madrid forward has now scored in all five AFCON matches he has played in this tournament, becoming the first Moroccan player to achieve such a feat.
Morocco doubled their lead in the 74th minute through Ismael Saibari, who unleashed a left-footed shot from the centre of the box following a set-piece situation, sealing the victory for the hosts.
This marked the first occasion that Morocco has triumphed over Cameroon in AFCON history. The hosts will now face the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final clash between Nigeria and Algeria for a spot in the semi-finals.
Ahead of the tournament, Morocco’s head coach, Walid Regragui, stated that the team’s objective is to win the AFCON after a 50-year wait, and the Atlas Lions are progressing ever closer to that dream on home soil.
