Boniface Suffers €35m Market Value Dip

Nigeria forward Victor Boniface has suffered a significant €35m drop in his market value, one of the biggest declines recorded in the latest update by Transfermarkt.

The March intermediary update, which completed the latest adjustments across Europe’s top five leagues, places Boniface among the 10 players with the steepest valuation declines this season, with his current market value now standing at €5m.

The update comes at a crucial stage of the 2025/26 campaign, with the Bundesliga, Premier League, Ligue 1, LaLiga and Serie A all entering their final stretch ahead of the World Cup, and player performances, injuries and consistency playing a decisive role in valuation shifts.

Boniface ranks fourth on the list of biggest drops, behind Rodri, whose value fell by €45m to €65m, as well as Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo, who both recorded €40m declines.

The Nigerian striker’s drop has largely been attributed to injury setbacks, which have disrupted his season and limited his impact, mirroring similar struggles faced by other players on the list such as Gavi, who also saw a €30m decrease.

Despite the setback, there are positive signs regarding Boniface’s recovery, with the 25-year-old recently returning to partial team training after undergoing knee surgery in early January.

Reports indicate that he resumed light sessions with his teammates earlier than expected, raising hopes that he could still feature before the end of the season, although a return in the coming weeks may come too soon.

His progress has been welcomed within the squad, with teammate Jens Stage expressing optimism about his impact upon return, noting that the forward possesses significant potential and remains a popular figure in the dressing room.

“I hope he’ll arrive, just as he did in the autumn, in good spirits,” the Danish midfielder told Kicker.

“Hopefully he’ll get very quickly and help us on the pitch. He possesses the most potential of perhaps anyone in the squad and is a good footballer.

“I don’t see any real negatives when it comes to Victor. He’s popular in the locker room; a cool guy who happens to be a lot of fun.”

Boniface’s situation highlights the influence of injuries on market valuations, particularly in a season where several high-profile players, including Florian Wirtz, Bukayo Saka, Oihan Sancet, Marcus Thuram and Nicolo Barella, have also experienced notable declines due to form and fitness concerns.
