Pa Akintola Williams the first indigenous accountant, died in the early hours of today Monday, September 11, 2023 in his sleep at age 104.

He was born in 1919, he is the pioneering father of accounting in Nigeria, he dedicated his life to advancing Nigeria’s financial sector.

Pa Williams studied accounting at the university of London and was qualified as a chartered accountant in 1947. Upon returning to Nigeria, Pa Williams established his accounting firm, Akintola Williams & Co., a firm which later became Deloitte & Touche, in 1952.

He was a founding member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and was president from 1963 to 1965. He was also a member of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors.

Beyond his successful career, Pa Akintola Williams was a fierce supporter of the growth of the accounting industry in Nigeria.

In honor of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s financial sector, Pa Williams won various honors and awards throughout his lifetime. These honors included the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) and the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).

He was also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
