A Legacy of Achievement

The ceremony, held on Wednesday, was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Bashiru Garba, who provided a brief yet compelling overview of the institution’s legacy. Established in 1975 as one of Nigeria’s four second-generation universities, UDUS has evolved remarkably since its inaugural convocation on 22nd November 1980, which saw a mere 72 students graduate. Today, the university is a beacon of higher education, producing thousands of graduates annually.

Professor Garba expressed pride in the institution’s journey, stating, “UDUS is a testament to the vision of our founders and a source of pride for every citizen of Nigeria.” The university currently boasts an impressive array of academic offerings, including 17 faculties, a College of Health Sciences, a College of Postgraduate Studies, and numerous research centres and institutes.

Diverse Academic Opportunities

The distribution of newly admitted students reflects the university’s diverse academic landscape. For the 2025/2026 session, the Faculty of Agriculture welcomed 306 students, while the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies admitted 187. The Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Chemical and Life Sciences received 65 and 1,146 students, respectively.

Other faculties saw substantial admissions as well:

### Voices from the New Cohort

Among the newly admitted students, Mariam Abdullahi expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am thankful to Almighty Allah and my parents for their unwavering belief in me.” With determination in her voice, she vowed to strive for academic excellence, aspiring to graduate with a first-class degree.

This sentiment echoes the aspirations of many students embarking on their academic journeys at UDUS, highlighting the commitment to not only personal success but also to contributing positively to society.

### Conclusion

The matriculation of 6,505 students at Usmanu Danfodiyo University is a significant milestone in the institution’s history.
