Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua federal constituency in Katsina state.

Announcing the result on Saturday, Lawan Garba said Yusuf polled 17,342 votes to defeat Auwalu Musa Daura, son of Lawal Daura, the former director general of the Department of State Services (DSS), who secured 480 votes.

Garba subsequently declared Yusuf the APC candidate for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.

In his acceptance speech, Yusuf thanked party members and supporters across the constituency for their support.

“I wish to sincerely thank the delegates, party leaders, stakeholders, and the good people of Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency for the overwhelming confidence and support,” he said.

“May this mandate be a stepping stone toward greater representation and development for our constituency.”

Yusuf also pledged to work with party stakeholders to ensure victory for the party in the general election.

“I will embrace everyone and carry all party members along to ensure that APC emerges victorious in the general elections,” he said.

“I sincerely thank the people of Daura, Sandamu, and Mai’adua for coming out in large numbers to support me.”

However, Daura rejected the outcome of the exercise, alleging irregularities in the conduct of the primary election.

Daura further alleged that the process did not comply with party guidelines.

“I am not satisfied with what happened today. Evidence is everywhere showing the injustice that was done,” he said.

“The manner of counting was highly questionable, and most of the people counted did not even have party membership cards.”

Daura said his participation in the primary election was motivated by his belief in fairness and internal democracy within the party.

He added that every aspirant deserved a level playing field and transparent party processes.
