For Abuja , the description is beyond been lucky to have the current Minister , Nzenwo Nyesom Wike CON, whose administration aside providing needed infrastructure and development, including quality Health care and affordable Education , has also decided to intervene in the economic lives of the indigent residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, particularly women and children.

This was far away from provision of affordable and subsidized palliatives and other essential commodities , including the encouragement to farmers and other interested individuals resident in the nation’s city to embrace both modern and subsistence farming through provision of free fertilizers.

 

For the Minister , Nzenwo Nyesom Wike CON, the welfare and wellbeing of citizens of the nation’s city had become the cornerstone of his administration in the last two years.

 

The promise to continue to sustain the tempo was obvious with regards to his determination to continue to affect the welfare of the citizens of FCT in all ramifications.

 

The positive stance and to enhance the economic lives of vulnerable of Abuja residents, led to the donation of not only 5,0000 cylinders , to also refill same free, for consecutive six months in line with it’s “Breath Clean Air Initiative”.

 

The decision of the Minister was sequel to the launch of “Safe Environment Renewable Project -Breath Clean Air , Abuja ” was debuted.

The policy framework of the new program was geared towards protecting lives and properties of residents of the nation’s city ,
as well as reduced to the barest minimum the risks and hazards of using firewood for domestic purposes.

 

The decision will also encourage citizens to tailor their minds towards the new form of domestic activities, as well as reduced to the barest minimum desertification.

 

In recent times , the removal of heavy and aesthetic woods and material across the nation’s city has become rampant, as the option of application of charcoal for domestic purposes had become an unbecoming trend.

 

According to Wike , the need to re-awaken the consciousness of our women and households towards the application of modest way of cooking cannot be overemphasized, stating that under the current dispensation of Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, human lives aimed at improving the standard of living of citizens will not be compromised .

 

Wike’s position is healthy living of our women to make them productive and inturn increased the GDP of of FCT, as a healthy community will translate to a wealthy one .

 

Partnering with well meaning organizations like the “IHS Nigeria Limited” to augement the sufferings of Abuja residents,as well as deploy their corporate social responsibility CSR was designed to help mothers and children from inhaling toxic gas , injurious to their health among others .

 

 

Wth emphasis on Health is Wealth, the application of charcoals and other wood appliances for cooking is always responsible for developing lung cancer disease and other lung diseases.

He said with the distribution of six months voucher, to the cylinder was an encouragement to the continuous usage of gas cylinders.

 

“This program, in a nutshell and simple English, is about helping 5,000 mothers, sisters, and daughters by not inhaling toxic gases anymore, and by really making sure that their health is better by breathing fresh air. That is in a nutshell”

 

According to the Minister and his partners,

Executive vice President of IHS, Ayotade Oyinlola, who spoke on the impact of the initiative, said the distribution will significantly reduce family income spent on medical bills.

 

An expert and a consultant Radiation and Clinical Oncologist specialist, National Hospital Abuja, and Secretary Nigerian Cancer Society, FCT Chapter, Dr. Ayuba Usman, said the initiative is centred on health prevention, while considering lifestyle improvement.

“Adding her voice, Daniela Omotola, who is one those spearheading the campaign, using Rotaract Clubs in Abuja, praised the project as a timely, life-changing intervention that will help reduce pollution-related illnesses and support a healthier FCT.”

“Stakeholders at the launch noted that as more households transition to cooking gas, the pressure on surrounding ecosystems including tree loss, soil degradation and rising temperatures is expected to decline over time.”

The Minister who said the project is part of its broader strategy to promote environmental health, reduce pollution and create safer living conditions for residents of FCT in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

 

It is obvious that the current FCT administration under the leadership of the Minister , Nzenwo Nyesom Wike CON is determined to extricate poverty and improved safer environment by all means necessary towards a virile society.
