Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has pledged that every district in the nation’s capital will benefit from President Bola Tinubu’s ambitious infrastructure development agenda, as construction activities intensify across Abuja’s city centre and satellite towns.
Speaking on Friday during the commissioning of the 3.4-kilometre Collector Roads CO1 and CO2 in Mabushi District, Wike reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to balanced territorial development, emphasising that no area would be neglected under the President’s directive.
“The ongoing infrastructure projects align with Mr President’s vision for comprehensive development spanning both the city centre and satellite towns,” Wike stated.
The Minister particularly highlighted the transformation of Karu under the current administration, suggesting the area had outgrown its satellite town classification. “I question why we continue to refer to Karu as a satellite town. I firmly believe Karu should be recognised as part of the capital city,” he declared, noting that the completed Karu road network now awaits official inauguration.
Wike also unveiled a newly constructed interchange linking Jahi and Gwarinpa districts, describing it as a landmark achievement in inter-district connectivity. “Gwarinpa surpasses many estates across the sub-region in scale. Linking it to Jahi through this interchange was essential,” he explained.
The Minister underscored how inadequate infrastructure had historically constrained Abuja’s real estate sector, observing a marked resurgence in property development along newly paved corridors. “Contractors are now racing to complete properties, while eager buyers and renters flood the market,” he noted.
In a pointed critique of past administrations, Wike condemned previous officials who neglected key corridors, particularly those leading to the affluent Maitama district. “They preferred using helicopters to access their residences. I am grateful that President Tinubu has now made road access possible for everyone,” he remarked.
Attributing the accelerated pace of construction to the President’s steadfast logistical support and political resolve, Wike stated: “With a courageous, focused leader who demands results, subordinates have no option but to deliver. We have been provided with all necessary logistics, and every request to the President has been granted.”
Representing President Tinubu at the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima commended Wike’s exemplary leadership in executing the administration’s vision. “I gave you a simple charge: ‘Make Abuja work for all’. You embraced it wholeheartedly. From satellite towns to the city centre, you are transforming blueprints into roads Nigerians can drive on today,” Shettima said.
FCT Minister of State Mariya Mahmoud praised Wike as a “master builder of Nigeria’s capital city,” acknowledging his relentless pursuit of excellence in converting blueprints into enduring monuments of progress.
Earlier, Federal Capital Development Authority acting Executive Secretary Richard Dauda revealed that the project was awarded in February 2025. He explained that the district, located in Phase II of the Federal Capital City, is bounded by Katampe to the north, Wuye to the south, Wuse II to the east, and Kado District to the west.
Dauda noted that Collector Road CO1 begins from Ahmadu Bello Way near the Mabushi Bus Terminal and reconnects to it at the Next Cash and Carry junction, while Collector Road CO2 branches from CO1 to connect with the Northern Parkway near the VIO headquarters.
“The completion of this project has opened this area for investment and rapid development of Mabushi District, creating opportunities for citizens while reducing travel time and enhancing security,” Dauda concluded.
