Electricity supply is poised to return to Maitama and its adjoining communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a high-level intervention by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Power Minister Joseph Tegbe.

The duo’s engagement with key stakeholders broke the deadlock that had stalled repairs at the C2 Maitama Substation, which was previously compromised by invasion and encroachment. In a statement on Monday, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) confirmed that the impasse had been resolved, allowing its engineers to mobilise immediately to the facility and commence reinstatement of damaged infrastructure.

AEDC described the ministers’ involvement as timely and instrumental, commending their leadership in accelerating a return to normalcy for affected residents and businesses.

“The issues arising from the invasion and encroachment on the C2 Maitama Substation have now been resolved, paving the way for the commencement of repair works and the restoration of electricity supply,” the company stated.

While assuring customers that safety protocols would guide the repairs, AEDC pledged to expedite the process and minimise further delays. The distributor also thanked the Maitama community for its patience throughout the disruption and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding critical power infrastructure across its franchise area.

The substation’s restoration is expected to bring immediate relief to thousands of households, commercial enterprises and public institutions that have endured prolonged outages since the incident.
