President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has earmarked ₦150 billion for the construction of a railway line in Kano as part of the 2025 budget.
The Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA), Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, has welcomed the move, describing it as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to national development.
In a statement released on Friday in Kano, Mr Bichi expressed gratitude for what he termed a “transformative gesture” towards the state.
“The recent allocation of ₦150 billion in the 2025 Appropriation Bill for the construction of a railway line in Kano city is a testament to the President’s commitment to driving growth and development across the nation,” he said.
He added that the project would revolutionise transportation in Kano, improving connectivity, facilitating trade, and stimulating economic growth.
“The railway line will not only improve the quality of life for residents but also position Kano as a hub for commerce and industry,” Mr Bichi stated.
He further noted that the allocation reflects the government’s broader commitment to enhancing infrastructure across Nigeria, citing the administration’s emphasis on revitalising hospitals and investing in healthcare in the 2025 budget.
The Kano railway project is expected to bolster the state’s economic prospects and strengthen its position as a major commercial centre in northern Nigeria.
