President Bola Tinubu has rescheduled his official visit to Kaduna State to embark on an emergency peace mission to Benue State following renewed attacks that have claimed lives and displaced residents in parts of the state.
Tinubu was initially slated to visit Kaduna on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, to commission several key projects executed by the state government. However, the visit has now been moved to Thursday, June 19, to accommodate his trip to Benue.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to him, the President’s visit to Benue is part of intensified efforts to end the persistent communal violence that has continued to ravage communities across the state.
“President Tinubu will engage stakeholders in a town hall meeting, including traditional rulers, political leaders, religious leaders, community heads, and youth representatives,” the statement said.
The presidential aide added that in preparation for the visit, Tinubu has dispatched top government officials to the state, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Defence.
President Tinubu had previously condemned the recurring violence in Benue and urged warring parties to embrace peace, unity, and tolerance. He also extended his condolences to the families of victims affected by the attacks.
Meanwhile, preparations are in top gear in Kaduna as the state awaits the President’s rescheduled visit. Government sources said several completed projects, particularly in infrastructure, education, and rural development, are slated for commissioning by the President.
The Thursday visit is expected to attract high-level dignitaries, including top federal officials, traditional rulers, and political stakeholders from across the state.
