Barely two years before the 2027 general elections, the Allied People’s Movement (APM) has begun an aggressive mobilisation drive in Kogi State, receiving thousands of defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, who also serves as Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), led a week-long awareness campaign across Kogi East Senatorial District to promote the party’s presidential ticket, which features Engr. Seyi Makinde as flag-bearer and Alhaji Lawal Daura as his running mate.

Speaking on Thursday in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area, Dantalle received large contingents of decampees from all nine local government areas of Kogi East, alongside various support groups. Earlier in the week, he had conducted similar exercises in Idah, where he welcomed defectors from both the APC and PDP.

Addressing the crowds in Anyigba, Dantalle described a robust opposition as essential to any stable democracy, urging Nigerians to rally behind opposition parties, particularly the APM, in the quest to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in January 2027.

“We are here to liberate Nigerians from the shackles of hardship, underdevelopment, insecurity, and banditry,” Dantalle declared. He called on opposition parties to unite under the APM banner to present a formidable challenge to the ruling party.

The high point of the event was the formal reception of thousands of defectors, who crossed over from the APC and PDP to the APM, signalling a shifting political alignment in the state ahead of the 2027 polls.

Dantalle, invoking the doctrine of “charity begins at home,” stressed that the mobilisation drive would continue across the country as the party seeks to build a broad coalition capable of wresting power from the incumbent government.
