In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s confirmation of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s election win for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), disheartened PDP loyalists orchestrated a protest in Lafia, Nasarawa’s capital.
Amidst this dissent, Lafia-Jos Road witnessed a complete standstill, marked by burning tires as PDP supporters, expressing their discontent, established a blockade outside the state secretariat.
This demonstration prompted motorists in Lafia to navigate alternative routes, causing disruptions across the state capital.
Security forces are on-site to ensure order and avert any potential escalation of tensions.
Concurrently, businesses, schools, and shops in Lafia swiftly closed their doors, possibly as a precautionary measure in response to the ongoing unrest.
The Supreme Court’s recent affirmation echoes the earlier Court of Appeal decision, dismissing the annulment of Governor Sule’s election.
The apex court, through a unanimous verdict by a five-member panel, upheld Governor Sule, an APC member, as the rightful winner of the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election in the state.
