Security forces have intercepted a substantial arms cache destined for criminal networks in Kogi State, apprehending three suspects following a meticulously coordinated, intelligence-driven operation spanning state lines.

The joint mission, which involved local security operatives, the Hybrid Forces under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), and the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, tracked a Golf 2 vehicle from Kogi to Sokoto State. After more than a fortnight of covert surveillance, the suspects were arrested in Sokoto, while the vehicle was subsequently impounded in Kabba, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area.

Recovered items include two AK-47 rifles, several magazines, 67 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two pistols, pistol rounds, and military uniforms believed intended for criminal operations.

Intelligence reports indicate the cache was part of a desperate effort to replenish weapons depleted by recent security victories, notably the neutralisation of notorious bandit leader Kachalla Battijo on June 10 – who had attempted to abduct students of Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu.

Commending the seamless synergy among the DSS, the military, and local forces, the Kogi State Government reaffirmed its proactive security posture. The administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo praised President Bola Tinubu for bolstering sub-national security capacities and extended gratitude to the Sokoto State Government for its critical role in the successful operation.
