RSaudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Defense, Prince Abdulrahman bin Mohammed bin Ayyat, hosted Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defense, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, in Riyadh on Monday to discuss bolstering defense collaboration between the two nations.

The meeting highlighted shared priorities in regional and international security, with both officials emphasizing the importance of deeper cooperation to address global defense challenges.

Discussions centered on enhancing collaboration in defense technologies, joint training initiatives, and developing comprehensive security strategies.

Prince Abdulrahman praised Nigeria’s efforts in addressing its domestic and regional security issues.

He noted that fostering such alliances was critical in achieving broader stability in Africa and the Middle East, regions increasingly affected by complex security dynamics.

Dr. Matawalle, recognized for his strategic contributions to Nigeria’s defense sector, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to partnerships that would strengthen its military capabilities.

He expressed optimism that the meeting would serve as a springboard for practical initiatives benefitting both countries.

“The alignment of our defense objectives demonstrates the mutual respect and understanding that exists between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria,” said Matawalle.

He added that leveraging Saudi expertise in defense technologies could prove instrumental in tackling Nigeria’s unique security challenges.

This high-level engagement follows Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to expand its defense partnerships globally, reflecting its strategic aim to play a more prominent role in international security cooperation.

For Nigeria, the meeting aligns with ongoing efforts to modernize its armed forces and foster global partnerships that complement its domestic defense initiatives.
