The House of Representatives Committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution has proposed the creation of 31 additional states in the country.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu read the letter from the committee containing the proposal during plenary on Thursday in Abuja.

“This is to inform members that the House of Representatives Committee on the Review of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as altered), has received legislative proposals for the creation of states and local governments in the following order:

North Central

Okun State (from Kogi)
Okura State (from Kogi)
Confluence State (from Kogi)
Benue Ala State (from Benue)
Apa State (from Benue)
FCT State

North East

Amana State (from Adamawa)
Katagum State (from Bauchi)
Savannah State (from Borno)
Muri State (from Taraba)

North West

New Kaduna State (from Kaduna)
Gurara State (from Kaduna)
Tiga State (from Kano)
Ari State (from Kano)
Kainji State (from Kebbi)

South East

Etiti State
Orashi State (6th state in South East)
Adada State (from Enugu)
Orlu State
Aba State

South-South:
Ogoja State (from Cross River)
Warri State (from Delta)
Ori State (from Rivers)
Obolo State (from Rivers)

 

South-West:

Torumbe State (from Ondo)
Ibadan State (from Oyo)
Lagoon State (from Lagos)
Lagoon State (from Lagos & Ogun)
