Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the release of some members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), from their abductors.

The youth corpers, whose number are yet-to-be ascertained were kidnapped on May 16, 2023 along the East-West road in Emohua local government area of Rivers State.

However, five of the youth corpers managed to escape into a nearby forest and were later rescued by policemen attached to Rumuji Divisional Police headquarters.

The victims were returning to Port Harcourt, the state capital from the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ondo State where their commercial bus was ambushed by suspected kidnappers.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the release of the youth corpers in a chat with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt yesterday.

Iringe-Koko, who is a Superintendent of Police (SP), however did not disclosed the number of those released.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that the kidnapped youth corpers have been rescued and they have all reunited with their families.”
