The Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli, announced the election results on Saturday in Port Harcourt.
According to the results released by the RSIEC, the All People’s Party (APP) secured victory in 22 out of the 23 local government positions during the recent elections.
Justice Enebeli noted that the announcement for Etche Local Government Area is currently on hold as the collation of results is still in progress. He indicated that the results for Etche LGA will be disclosed later, along with the outcomes of the 319 councillorship seats.
The election has faced several controversies, including the police’s refusal to provide security and protests from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the election’s conduct.
Earlier on Saturday, Aaron Chukwuemeka, the chairman of the Rivers PDP, expressed concerns that the announcement of results could lead to violence. He stated, “We cannot support or endorse any form of lawlessness or impunity, even as the ruling party in Rivers State. It is imperative that all court judgments are respected; we cannot selectively choose which court orders to follow.”
