FOLLOWING the rate of insecurity in Nigeria, the Northern Christian Youth Professionals have called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to support their appeal to President Bola Tinubu for the recruitment of Community members to help in the fight against banditry.
The group made the appeal on Saturday in a press statement signed by its National Chairman, Isa,ac Abrak, and issued to Newsmen in Kaduna.
According to him, recruiting Community members residing on the fringes of these forest Guard would yield significant results in apprehending and driving terrorists from the forests where they’re currently hiding.
He said their collaboration with the police and other security agencies, utilizing their extensive knowledge of the forests, will play a crucial role in securing these areas, adding the ungoverned areas in our nation’s vast forest.
Isaac explained: ” The Forest Guard can hold the ground after bandits have been dislodged by the Police or military and ensure that the bandits never return to the forest again, making it easier for the police and military to focus on other more challenging assignments.
“This is in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s campaign promise to prevent violent groups from using our forests and other public lands as hideouts.
” The President’s recent commitment to revitalize the Rangers or Forest Guard force, with a core mandate to monitor, identify, and track the use of our forests by any violent or criminal groups as captured in his Renewed Hope Manifestor, is a commendable initiative widely applauded by Nigerians, particularly the security experts.
” Furthermore, we eagerly anticipate the deployment of the remaining 40,000 operatives of the Special Intervention Squad to the ten states, as promised in 2023 by the Inspector General of Police, noting this proactive measure will further strengthen the efforts to maintain security and order in these regions.
” The Northern Christian Youth Professionals applaud these initiatives and remain committed to supporting actions that contribute to the peace and security of our nation.” The group added.
