In a recent visit to Governor Alex Otti, PSC National Commissioner, Mr Onyemauche Nnamani, expressed concern over the lack of interest among Abia’s youths in the Nigeria Police Force recruitment.

With only around 2,000 applications from the state, a stark contrast to some Northern states with 30,000 applications, Nnamani highlighted the urgent need for increased manpower.

In the pursuit of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to recruit an additional 30,000 men from Abia, Nnamani emphasized the state’s preparedness for this task.

Governor Otti, while commending the state’s improved security situation, acknowledged the challenge and urged a proactive approach.

Examining the reasons behind the low interest, Otti recognized the perception of challenges in career progression within the police force.

Despite improvements, Otti aims to alter this mindset, positioning police work as a viable career choice for Abians.

As part of this initiative, Otti’s administration plans to introduce incentive packages in future recruitment drives, making police work more appealing to the qualified youths of Abia.

Nnamani applauded Otti’s efforts but stressed the need for continuous improvement. Otti responded by assigning the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, along with the security team, to engage the community actively.

Through liaison officers, town criers, churches, and community centres, they aim to raise awareness about the significance of joining the Nigeria Police Force.
