The Nigeria Police Force has concluded disciplinary action against officers involved in the fatal shooting of Mr Mene Ogidi on 26th April 2026 in Effurun, Delta State.

Following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, all implicated officers were transferred from Delta Command to Force Headquarters, Abuja, for expedited proceedings. The Force Disciplinary Committee found that ASP Nuhu Usman breached Force Order 237 and other firearm regulations, describing his actions as unlawful and unprofessional.

The Committee recommended immediate dismissal for ASP Usman and other culpable officers. The IGP has approved the recommendation and forwarded it to the Police Service Commission for ratification. Once administrative processes are complete, the officers will face prosecution for extrajudicial killing.

The IGP reaffirmed the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on abuse of power, stating that no uniform justifies unlawful use of lethal force. He extended his deepest condolences to the family of Mr Ogidi and assured the public that justice will be both done and seen to be done.

Citizens are urged to remain calm, as the Force reaffirms its commitment to accountability, professionalism, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
