Morocco powered into the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals with a commanding 3-0 victory over co-hosts Canada at Houston Stadium on Saturday, delivering a performance that underscored their growing pedigree on the global stage.

The Atlas Lions were held at bay for much of a goalless first half, as Canada’s disciplined rearguard successfully neutralised Morocco’s early attacking forays. Yet the resistance crumbled five minutes after the restart when Azzedine Ounahi broke the deadlock, latching onto Achraf Hakimi’s incisive pass and firing home from the edge of the box.

Canada responded with purpose, carving out several promising opportunities, but a lack of cutting edge in front of goal proved costly. Morocco made them pay in the 82nd minute when Ounahi completed his brace, meeting Brahim Díaz’s delivery with a composed finish into the roof of the net. Soufiane Rahimi then added gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time, sealing a thoroughly deserved triumph.

This emphatic display reinforces Morocco’s credentials as a force to be reckoned with, following their historic semi-final run in Qatar four years ago. Walid Regragui’s side now await the winner of Saturday’s later Round of 16 clash between France and Paraguay, with a place in the last four at stake.
