Nigeria’s Super Eagles have advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique’s Mambas in a round of 16 encounter at the Fes Sports Complex on Monday evening.
The Eagles took an early lead in the 20th minute when Ademola Lookman struck home a cut-back pass from Akor Adams. Nigeria doubled their advantage just four minutes later, as Victor Osimhen tapped in a cross from Lookman.
Barely two minutes into the second half, Osimhen extended Nigeria’s lead further, slotting home yet another cross from Lookman from close range to make it 3-0.
Shortly after, Bright Osayi-Samuel came close to making it 4-0, but his effort, following a pass from Lookman, narrowly missed the target.
Osimhen was substituted in the 68th minute after appearing to withdraw from the game following an apparent disagreement with Lookman. He was replaced by Moses Simon.
Adams sealed the victory for Nigeria in the 75th minute, controlling a pass from Lookman before firing the ball into the roof of the net, propelling the three-time African champions into the last eight.
Nigeria will face the winner of the round of 16 match between Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday to determine their opponent in the quarter-finals.
