Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on aggrieved aspirants to accept the results of the party’s recently concluded primary elections, urging them to prioritise unity and discipline over personal grievances.

Speaking at the party’s second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Obi warned that unresolved disputes could undermine the NDC’s mission and long-term political ambitions.

“I want to sincerely appeal to all our aspirants who participated in our primaries to accept the outcomes in good faith,” Obi said. “In every democratic process, there will be winners and others who did not succeed. What matters most is what we do after the process.”

The former Anambra governor noted that the NDC had completed congresses, conventions, and primaries within roughly 90 days of its registration—a feat that even established parties struggle to achieve. He appealed for understanding, patience, and sacrifice in the interest of the party’s broader goal.

“We should not be overly consumed by today’s internal processes. We must look ahead to tomorrow,” Obi added. “This party will be different. When given the opportunity, we will demonstrate leadership that is inclusive, compassionate and accountable.”

NDC National Chairman Moses Cleopas described the party’s rapid organisational progress as extraordinary, attributing its survival to divine guidance and collective sacrifice. He likened the movement to “Noah’s Ark”—a vessel of national rescue and renewal.

National Leader Seriake Dickson also praised the party’s resilience, noting that despite predictions of collapse, the NDC had conducted successful congresses and primaries and remained strong. He urged unsuccessful aspirants to view their experience as part of a larger political journey.

The NEC meeting resolved to deepen internal reforms, including the introduction of electronic voting for future congresses and primaries.
