…says only PDP can rescue, recover Nigeria

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Tuesday, met with leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to strategise to ensure victory for the party in the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking at the strategy meeting in Benin City, Obaseki said the country is at crossroads, urging party members to make the necessary sacrifice and work tirelessly to ensure the party’s victory in the forthcoming elections so as to rescue the nation from the many socioeconomic challenges bedeviling it.

He said, “There is a clear and present danger facing Nigeria as a country but as a party, we have the instrument and tools to rescue Nigeria and correct the error and suffering that the people of this nation are presently facing.

“The founding fathers of our party had designed the PDP as a core correction party that is always in the position to save the Country. The PDP as a party, in 1999, rescued Nigeria which found itself in a similar situation.

“The PDP is the only organized party to save this Country. PDP has the divine responsibility to rescue and recover Nigeria from bad leadership. We all should be ready to make sacrifices to reclaim our Country.”

Obaseki further noted, “We will continue to talk to our people, party members, and non-party members alike from the unit, ward, and local government levels and ensure we unite to win the election.

“Election is in 19 days. How prepared are we for this election? As a party, we have a good story to tell as Nigerians are not blind and have not suffered this much before. The problems caused by these people are huge. No cash, no fuel amid high food prices. These challenges will soon be over in about three weeks’ time.

“Ward Election Management Committee (WEMC) should be in place to supervise the units. We have plans and our plans will surely lead us to victory. We have a stake in this election as the position of the Vice-President is for us. As Vice-President, Okowa will be the Chairman of the Economic Team and I will be the oldest governor of the team.”

The governor added, “We will continue to appeal to our people and reach out to them to join forces with us to win the election in the State and Country at large. From next week, we will continue to test our electoral machine. This is a digital era. We have already planned for victory and victory is sure as nothing happens by chance. Election is not won on Election Day but won before the day of the election.”

On his part, the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, said, “Nigeria is in our own hands as PDP stands strategically to win this election. Edo needs to take its place in winning the election as it will create the chance to recognize the State.

“I challenge us to start talking to all our people as I have been doing that myself throughout the journey to the Supreme Court. I trust that soon, some of them will be making statements.”
