Nigerian professional wrestler Oba Femi has pulled off a seismic upset at WrestleMania 42, defeating ten-time WWE Champion Brock Lesnar in under five minutes on his debut.
The 27-year-old, known as “The Ruler,” overpowered the veteran in an explosive clash that quickly became one of the night’s most talked-about moments. In a symbolic act widely interpreted as a retirement signal, Lesnar left his wrestling gear in the ring following the defeat.
Despite having spent only three months on WWE’s main roster, Femi displayed remarkable composure, matching Lesnar’s strength from the opening bell. The contest began cautiously, with both men testing each other’s power before Lesnar briefly seized control with a series of heavy attacks. However, the Nigerian star absorbed the pressure and turned the tide, delivering a chokeslam after surviving an F5 from Lesnar.
He sealed victory with his signature “Fall From Grace” sit-out powerbomb, securing a decisive pinfall.
The result triggered an immediate wave of reactions across social media, with fans hailing the shock outcome.
Femi, a former shot put athlete from Lagos, began his sporting career in track and field before joining WWE in 2021 through its NIL programme. He is a two-time NXT Champion and a one-time NXT North American Champion. His accolades also include winning the 2023 NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament and the 2024 Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge.
