A civic group, the Coalition of Patriots, has called on President Bola Tinubu to order an investigation into complaints over delays in federal contractors’ payments.

The group said it had received reports from contractors who claimed that payments for executed government projects were being delayed at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

Speaking in a statement on Monday, the Programme Coordinator of the coalition, Godknows Thinkwell, said the concerns emerged from engagements with contractors across different sectors.

He said the delays were affecting businesses and undermining confidence in government procurement and service delivery.

Thinkwell added that many contractors were unwilling to speak publicly, citing fear of possible repercussions, but said the group was prepared to submit its findings to relevant anti-corruption agencies.

The coalition appealed to the President to direct an independent review of the complaints in order to improve transparency and efficiency in public financial management.

When contacted for comments, Felix Ore-Ofe Ogundairo from the Office of the Accountant-General declined to respond, saying he knew nothing about the allegation.

Another official, Steve Ehikhamenor, said he was not in a position to speak and promised to link the reporter with the press department, but no response had been received as of press time.
