Former coach of Enyimba International FC of Aba, Samson Unanuel, has now emerged as the prime target for top Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side.
Though Unanuel is currently managing a Nigerian National League (NNF) side, Calabar Rovers, the Northern-Nigeria based NPFL club want him to put pen to paper with them.
The club, who pleaded that their identity should be kept in secret for now, said they are closely monitoring Samson Unanuel’s situation at the Calabar Rovers FC before announcing their bid to sign him or not.
The media officer of the club who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity due to sensitivity of the matter, said a whopping bid that will make Unanuel one of the highest paid coaches in the Nigeria Premier Football League will soon be made public.
“Unanuel is a good coach and he is one of the coaches in Nigeria that has CAF B-license certificate. We understand he is not happy at the Calabar Rovers where he is at the moment, whether due to poor pay or his relationship with the club management, we don’t really know. But we are monitoring the situation and at the appropriate time we will approach him with our bid which I believe will make him one of the highest paid coaches in Nigeria Premier Football League,” the source said.
Unuanel teamed up with the Calabar Rovers in 2020 after leaving an amateur club Cynosure due to the inability of the side to offer him a professional contract.
When asked to comment on the latest development about his coaching career, Unuanel said he has not been contacted by any Premier League but he is open to a good offer and right environment that will enable him carry out his function unhindered and satisfactory.
“Well, I have not been contacted by any club, but we are always on the move as coaches. If I receive a good offer and both the conditions and environment are right, why not.
“But for now I’m focusing on Calabar Rovers and by the grace of God, Premier League’s ticket will be gotten by us in the coming season,” Unuanel explained.
Samson Unuanel is one of the best coaches in Nigeria considering the number of players he nurtured from the grassroots before becoming professional stars.
The likes of Dare Ojo, Samuel Adegbenro, Isiaka Oladuntoye, Suraju Ayeleso played under the experienced tactician.
