Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has directed all political appointees in his government who wish to seek elective office in the 2027 general elections to resign their appointments on or before March 31.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Labaran Magaji, on Wednesday in Lafia.

The directive, Mr Magaji said, is in line with the provisions of Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said that the political office holders affected by the directive include commissioners, special advisers, senior special assistants, special assistants, and personal assistants.

Others are directors-general and chief executive officers of state government parastatals, agencies, commissions, and government-owned companies.

“Political appointees of the governor who wish to participate in the party primaries or seek nomination for any elective office, as well as those in the employment of the Government of Nasarawa State, are also affected by this directive.

”Accordingly, affected officials are to submit their resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State not later than Tuesday, 31st March, 2026.

”All concerned are to note and ensure strict compliance,” the SSG said.
