NorthWest University, Sokoto Gets NUC’s Full Operational Licence

The Northwest University, Sokoto has been granted full operational licence, a letter signed by the the acting Director of Inspection and Monitoring of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Mrs Lydia Imoroa revealed.

Mrs Lydia, who signed the letter onbehalf of the Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu was dated 14th August, 2025 and titled, “Issuance of Full Operational Licence”.

The letter tagged NUC/ES/138/VOL/66.10 and addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the Northwest University, Sokoto read in part, “The Vice Chancellor may recall the assessment visit conducted to NorthWest University, Sokoto, Sokoto State from 24th to 27th April, 2025 to ascertain the compliance of the University with operational guidelines during the 3 year probationary period of the Probational Licence”.

Continuing, the letter added, “Following the conduct of the excercise, I am pleased to inform you that the Management Committee of the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the Issuance of Full Operational Licence to NorthWest University, Sokoto, Sokoto State”.

A copy of the licence jointly signed by both the Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu and the Minister of Education, Dr Mansur Tunji Alausa sighted by our reporter read, “Licence to Operate As A Private University”, with serial number 111 ad dated 24th August, 2025 confirmed that, the University has fulfilled all requirements.

“This is to certify that upon fulfillment of all requirements laid down in Education (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Act, Cap E3 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004, and after a satisfactory mandatory probational period, the Federal Government has approved the issuance of Full Operational Licence to NorthWest University, Sokoto, Sokoto State and it’s hereby registered and permitted to operate statutorily as a Private University in Nigeria”.
