Algeria, Nigeria, and Niger have endorsed the steering committee resolutions for trans-Sahara gas pipeline (TSGP) project.

In a statement via X on Tuesday, Ekperikpe Ekpo, minister of state for petroleum resources (Gas), said the resolutions were endorsed in Algiers, Algeria.

The trans-saharan gas pipeline project aims at transporting natural gas from West Africa to Europe.

While Ekpo did not reveal the resolutions, he said the endorsement paved the way for the execution of three key agreements; a comprehensive review of the project’s viability and potential; a confidentiality pact ensuring sensitive information remains protected; and a financial arrangement outlining terms for reimbursement among the TSGP partners.

“Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, H.E. Mohammed Arkab, and Niger Republic’s Minister of Petroleum, Dr. Sahabi OUAMAROU, endorsed the Steering Committee resolutions for the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project in Algiers, Algeria, today,” he said.

“The endorsement paved the way for the execution of three key agreements: Feasibility Study Revalidation/Update – a comprehensive review of the project’s viability and potential; Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)- a confidentiality pact ensuring sensitive information remains protected; and Reimbursement Agreement – a financial arrangement outlining terms for reimbursement among the TSGP partners.

“Executives from NNPC Ltd, SONATRACH, and SONIDEP signed the agreements, marking a significant milestone in the TSGP project.”

On June 20, 2022, Timipre Sylva, former Nigerian minister of state for petroleum resources, said the $13 billion TSGP project will present a huge opportunity for Nigeria, Niger and Algeria to tap into the European markets.

Sylvia explained that the project would bring the participating country’s gas resources closer to the European market, especially with the high cost of gas occasioned by the war between Russia and Ukraine.
