The Niger Government Road Maintenance Agency (NIGROMA), says it has commenced the rehabilitation of 50 kilometres of urban roads within the state.

Alhaji Farouk Audi, Managing Director, NIGROMA, said this at the commencement of the rehabilitation of 1.5 kilometres Abdulkadir Kure Ultra-Modern Market to Bomas Supermarket Road in Minna on Saturday.

He disclosed that five roads totaling 50 kilometres that were in critical conditions have been selected for rehabilitation quarterly.

“It took us this while to start repairs because we had to plan, re-strategise prioritising roads that are in critical and bad conditions and those that are fairly good.

“The Abdulkadir Kure Ultra-Modern market to Bomas supermarket Road has been in bad shape for a while without getting attention.

“But, the Gov. Bago-led administration, which is keen to develop infrastructure, approved the roads maintenance to ease free flow of motorists especially on the market road.

“This also signifies our intentions as an agency that we mean business to repair bad portions of roads within the state,” he said.

Audi disclosed that other roads to be rehabilitated were the Top Medical to M I Wushishi road, among others.

He said that road infrastructure development and maintenance were part of the developmental programmes of the Bago-led administration to allow free flow of traffic.

Alhaji Gambo Aliyu, Chairman, Harmonised Minna Traders, commended Bago for approving the rehabilitation of the market road, adding that the road had been in a deplorable state for a long period of time.

“We have waited for a long time for the road to be repaired, motorists have been having difficulties plying the road and we experience low patronage because of the road,” he said.

Also, Alhaji Aliyu Maikaza, Youth Leader in the market, expressed happiness with the Bago-led administration for approving the repair of the road to address the plight of motorists. (NAN)
