NASENI, USAID train 300 girls, donate laptops to boost tech skills

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has trained 300 girls and donated laptops to equip them with skills for tech-driven future.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the donation by NASENI was in collaboration with USAID and was presented to the beneficiaries during the closing ceremony of EveryGirl 2.0, on Thursday in Abuja.

The initiative also known as EveryGirl or Girl Connect, targets girls aged 14 to 21 in marginalised areas, empowering them with skills to adapt to internet utilisation.

Mr Khalil Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of NASENI and founder of Khalil Suleiman Halilu (KSH) Foundation, initiator of EveryGirl, said that the programme’s objectives were to stimulate girls’ early engagement to technology.

“We want to educate, mentor and support young women by equipping them with the tools to leverage on the internet for educational pursuits, career prospects, and personal growth.

“This year’s, EveryGirl training witnessed the active participation of 300 young women from all six geopolitical zones of the country.

“Participants benefited from in-depth training on subjects such as Introduction to Internet Technology, Internet Communication Tools, Cyber security Awareness,

“Other areas of the training were Web Browsing and Social Media Skills, Digital Presence Management, Digital Marketing, Internet-related Careers, and Online Safety,” he added.

Halilu encouraged the participants to train others for wider learning and empowerment.

Ms Fatima Sanusi, a participant from Kano, expressed her appreciation for the training, stating that she learnt a lot and would help to train others when she returned to her state.

Also, Ms Eze Favour, another participant from Ebonyi, appreciated the organisers.

She pledged to replicate what she had learnt at the training to other girls to enhance technological advancement in her state. (NAN
