The Senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial district, Godiya Akwashiki is dead.
He died on Wednesday in India after a protracted illness.
Although there is no official confirmation of his death by government different social media platforms in his home state are awash with announcements of his passing.
The late senator has long being missing from public space as he was said to be battling with an undisclosed illness which kept him incapacitated.
A source close to the family said although the senator has been sick for long, the news of his demise came as a shock to them all.
He said the late Akwashiki has touched lives not just in his constituency but across Nasarawa and the nation at large.
He noted that his demise is a big blow to the Eggon nation where he served as a unifying figure and left behind indelible footprints of growth and development.
Before his demise, is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-parliamentary Affairs and Vice Chairman of the Media and Public Affairs Committee.
Born on August 1973, Senator Akwashiki was elected into the State House of Assembly in 2011 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where became the Majority Leader.
On his reelection in 2015, he emerged as the deputy speaker
In 2019, he contested for Nasarawa North Senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and won.
He defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and in the run up to 2023 general election after denying the APC ticket for the slot, and won a return.
The late senator is married witn children.
