A woman accused of child abduction has been killed and her body set on fire by an angry mob in the Maraban Jos area of Kaduna State, after she was forcibly removed from police custody.

The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the incident, with spokesperson Mansir Hassan condemning the act as a grave violation of the law. He stated that the Divisional Police Officer received an emergency call around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday reporting that a woman was being attacked over unsubstantiated allegations of child theft. Officers rescued her and moved her to the station for safety and investigation.

However, a large crowd later overwhelmed the police post, seized the woman, lynched her, and burnt her remains. The deceased, a native of Maraban Jos, was described as a victim of barbaric mob justice.

Several suspects have been arrested, with further arrests pending. Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad strongly condemned the attack, warning that jungle justice and assaults on police facilities would not be tolerated. He urged the public to report suspicions to authorities and allow due process to prevail.

The command has launched a full-scale investigation and vowed to prosecute all those responsible.
