Manchester City have reportedly been found guilty of 114 of the 115 financial breaches brought against them by the Premier League.
The Athletic reported on Friday that an independent panel reached the decision after examining the club’s long-running case.
However, no sanction has yet been decided.
City are expected to appeal any decision, meaning the case is not yet concluded.
Responding to the report, the club insisted that the Premier League process “remains ongoing” and is “subject to strict confidentiality”.
“As such, Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023,” the club said.
The Premier League has not publicly confirmed the reported verdict.
Under its disciplinary rules, an independent Commission can impose sanctions including fines, points deductions and other sporting penalties, while parties can challenge its decisions through an appeal process.
The case became public in February 2023 when the Premier League charged City with alleged breaches covering the period from the 2009/10 season to 2017/18.
The allegations include claims that the club failed to provide accurate financial information relating to revenue, payments to players and managers, and its compliance with financial rules.
The period under investigation began shortly after Abu Dhabi United Group acquired City in 2008.
Since then, the club have established themselves among English football’s dominant teams, winning multiple Premier League titles and other major trophies.
The reported findings could now trigger a major battle over the sanctions to be imposed, although the eventual punishment remains unknown.
Previous Premier League cases involving financial breaches have resulted in points deductions.
Everton and Nottingham Forest, for instance, were both handed points deductions during the 2023/24 season after being found to have breached the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
City’s case, however, involves a far larger number of alleged breaches and has taken years to reach this reported stage.
The club have consistently denied wrongdoing and are expected to challenge the reported findings.
For now, the outcome of any appeal and the eventual sanction remain to be determined.
