The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has described the emerging political alliance between APM and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State’s presidential ambition, as a welcome development capable of strengthening multiparty democracy in Nigeria.

In a statement personally signed by the APM National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the party said the spirits of Nigeria’s departed heroes and political gladiators from the old Western Region stand firmly behind Governor Makinde, reawakened after many decades.

Mr Yusuf recalled how figures such as the late Chief Melford Adisa Akinloye of the NPN, Chief Lamidi Adedibu, the late Chief Adelabu, and the three premiers of the old Western Region—Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, and Alhaji Aderemi—used alliances to achieve political goals and regional development, including in the Midwest and across the country.

He maintained that this spirit has been reignited and will play out in the 2027 general elections, spearheaded by Governor Makinde, both in the South West and nationwide.

According to Mr Yusuf, the entire South West—Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, and Lagos States—is already leading the charge in the forthcoming alliance and political mobilisation for the APM, qualifying Governor Makinde to lead the region to electoral victory in 2027.

“From Lagos to Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti, the majority will vote APM from top to bottom,” he said, adding that the large turnout of supporters from the six states indicates the APM will capture the entire South West in 2027, with the movement spreading to the North Central, North West, North East, South South, and South East.

Describing Governor Makinde as a fearless politician, Mr Yusuf said the organic support on display during the grand alliance gathering at Ibadan’s Mapo Hall on Thursday marked him as a skilled political manager in the current dispensation.

He urged the public to sustain genuine support for the governor, describing him as a leader with the people’s interests at heart. The party spokesperson also congratulated the APM National Chairman, who also serves as IPAC Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Maman Dantelle, for his role in mobilising Nigerians toward successful electioneering campaigns in 2027.

Mr Yusuf said the moves championed by the APM National Chairman have already shifted calculations for next year’s elections, averting the risk of turning the country into a one-party state.
