The Vice Chairman of Lere Local Government Area, Hon. Kalen Ephraim Audu (PhD), has reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to advancing girl-child education and empowerment, describing young girls as “leaders in the making” who must be supported to reach their full potential.

Audu stated this during the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child celebration held on Thursday at Government Secondary School, Lere (Lere West) and Girls’ College of the Beatitudes, Saminaka (Lere East), where hundreds of students gathered under the theme: “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis.”

The event featured sensitisation sessions on menstrual hygiene, self-worth, and personal development, as well as the distribution of free sanitary pads and food items to the participating girls.

Speaking at the event, Kalen noted that many girls across local communities face daily challenges ranging from poverty to gender-based barriers, yet continue to aspire for education and leadership.

“She is not just a daughter; she is a leader in the making. She faces barriers of poverty, silence, and expectation, yet she rises, learns, and dares to dream,” he said.

She praised Governor Uba Sani for his visionary policies on girl-child education and women’s empowerment, which, according to him, have inspired progress across Kaduna State.

Kalen also expressed appreciation to Hon. Jafaru Ahmed, her political leader and mentor, for his guidance and support, as well as to other individuals and groups who contributed to the successful commemoration of the day.

“As a Local Government, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a future where no girl is left behind, where every girl can learn, lead, and lift others,” Audu added.

She urged girls in the area to remain confident and resilient, saying, “You are not forgotten. You are the change we need. You are the light of tomorrow.”

ELANZA NEWS reports that the International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on October 11, aims to highlight the rights and potential of girls worldwide and to address the challenges they face in achieving equality, education, and empowerment.
