Hon. Simon Lalong, the Minister of Labour and Employment under President Bola Tinubu, has submitted his resignation from the Federal Executive Council, signaling his intention to transition to the Senate.
Following the Court of Appeal’s decision in Abuja on November 7, validating the tribunal’s ruling that ousted elected members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State, Lalong emerged victorious in the Plateau South Senatorial election held on February 25, 2023.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) subsequently issued him the Certificate of Return in line with the appeal court’s judgment.
Sources close to the former governor of Plateau State and Director-General of the Tinubu Presidential Council reveal that Lalong plans to await President Bola Tinubu’s decision before formally stepping into the upper chamber.
The move is strategic, aiming to contribute to Tinubu’s success in the presidential race.
As Lalong gears up for his senatorial journey, a succession plan is in motion. A new, younger appointee is anticipated to take up the role of Minister representing Plateau State, ensuring continuity in governance.
The minister’s commitment to Tinubu’s cause, evident during campaigns, emphasizes the significance of his impending role in the Senate.
