Kano State’s 2026 mass wedding programme kicks off Monday with attire distribution across 44 local government areas.

The Kano State Hisbah Board has released the schedule for its 2026 state-sponsored mass wedding, with activities commencing today and running until August 9.

Deputy Commander-General Mujahiddeen Aminuddeen announced that the programme would begin with the distribution of wedding attire to all screened couples across the state’s 44 council areas.

Beneficiaries are required to collect their attire from Hisbah offices in their respective local governments upon presentation of screening tickets. Couples within the Kano metropolitan area should report to the Hisbah Board Headquarters from 10:00 a.m.

A pre-marital seminar is scheduled for Thursday at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano. The session will address marital responsibilities under Islamic teachings and offer small-scale business training to foster entrepreneurial skills and self-reliance.

Wedding solemnisation (Fatiha) for couples under the Rano, Gaya and Karaye Emirates will take place on Saturday, with the respective Emirs presiding. A date for couples under the Kano Emirate will be announced following a final screening at the Hisbah headquarters.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will host a reception for the newlyweds at Government House, where furniture, household utensils and other state-provided items will be displayed before distribution.

The governor will address the couples, and past beneficiaries will share testimonials on the initiative’s impact.

The week-long programme concludes on August 9, with all 44 local government areas hosting receptions for their newly married couples.

The annual mass wedding initiative, consistently sponsored by the Kano government, aims to support less-privileged couples, strengthen family values and promote social welfare.
