Five decades after Abuja became Nigeria’s capital, the iconic City Gate has undergone a remarkable metamorphosis under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emerging as the capital’s newest tourist attraction.

The multi-million naira reconstruction and remodelling project, spearheaded by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has breathed new life into the nation’s gateway. First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu officially commissioned the facility despite rainy weather, describing it as “the face of the nation.”

The transformation marks a dramatic departure from the site’s previous reputation as a haven for criminal activity after dark. Today, the once-daunting environment boasts gleaming lights, secure surroundings, and an inviting atmosphere that draws visitors from early morning until dusk.

Designed waterfalls have become a focal point for photography enthusiasts, while the enhanced security measures have made the location accessible to Nigerians from all walks of life. The daily influx of visitors has turned what was once a neglected entry point into a vibrant social hub.

The Wike-led administration’s decision to convert the City Gate into a mini tourist park aligns with broader infrastructural development efforts across the Federal Capital Territory. This initiative, part of over one month of project commissioning activities marking the administration’s third anniversary, is expected to boost investment prospects and enhance Nigeria’s international image.

The renovation represents a timely intervention that has not only beautified the capital’s entrance but also created a secure, welcoming space for both domestic and international visitors to experience Abuja’s evolving landscape.
