The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has brought an eight-count indictment against Sulaiman Danwawu, a 37-year-old alleged drug lord, at the Federal High Court in Kano.

Danwawu was apprehended on May 10 by the Kano State Police Command alongside several accomplices before being transferred to the NDLEA for comprehensive investigation and legal proceedings.

The charge sheet, acquired from the court, accuses Danwawu of unlawfully possessing a range of controlled substances including Tramadol, Rohypnol, Cannabis Sativa, Pregabalin, and Codeine-infused cough syrup—drugs classified as narcotics under Nigerian law.

These alleged infractions reportedly occurred on various dates in May 2025, in the Cairo Street area of Tudun Yola within Gwale Local Government, Kano State. The NDLEA asserts that Danwawu lacked the legal authority to possess these substances, thus violating Section 19 of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Should he be found guilty, Danwawu could face severe repercussions under Nigeria’s anti-narcotics legislation as authorities ramp up efforts to tackle drug-related offenses in the area.
