In a surprising turn of events just ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Edo governorship race on 21st September, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has officially withdrawn from the contest, reshaping the political landscape in the state.

Announcing his decision on Friday in Benin, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu cited personal consultations and the need for party unity as reasons for his withdrawal, sending shockwaves through the APC leadership at both state and national levels.

Amidst speculations linking the party leadership, including Senator Adams Oshiomhole, to favouring another candidate, Dennis Idahosa, representing Ovia Federal Constituency, Ize-Iyamu’s departure signifies a significant shift in the APC’s internal dynamics.

In his statement, Ize-Iyamu expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the national leadership for their commitment to fairness, while also acknowledging the resilience of his supporters and campaign team.

With Ize-Iyamu’s withdrawal, the focus now turns to the remaining contenders as they brace for a pivotal primary election, charged with the task of selecting the party’s torchbearer for the Edo governorship race.

Despite the setback, Ize-Iyamu reassured his supporters of unwavering commitment to the party’s cause, pledging to throw his weight behind any candidate emerging victorious in the forthcoming primary election.

In a twist of events, Ize-Iyamu, initially sidelined by a screening committee chaired by Prof.

Julius Ihonvbere, later received clearance to participate in the primaries following protests from affected aspirants, highlighting the intricate power play within the APC ranks.
