In the midst of a persistent crisis, the 10th Assembly of Kaduna State has officially assumed control of legislative duties in Kagarko Local Government Area.
This move comes as a response to the lingering discord within the region.
In an unprecedented step, the assembly has indefinitely suspended eight councilors from Kagarko Local Government.
Their suspension arises from an illicit attempt to impeach Nasara Rabo, the Council Chairman, without adhering to due process.
The assembly has taken a decisive stance against the following suspended councilors:
Hon. Danjuma Padalo, Iddah Ward
Hon. Adamu Abdulaziz, Kagarko South Ward
Livinus Makama, Aribi Ward
Samson Hazo, Katugal Ward
Hon. Amos Egoh, Kushe Ward
Hon. Idris Abubakar, Jere North Ward
Hon. Zakaria Musa, Kukui War
Hon. Rabo Musa, Kurmin Jibrin Ward.
The suspension follows their involvement in an improper impeachment of the Council Chairman on 2nd November 2023.
During this incident, the 10th Assembly was concurrently investigating allegations of misappropriation of funds against Chairman Nasara Rabo.
However, a twist in the tale emerged as a recall letter dated November 3rd, 2023, and signed by Barr. Sakinatu Hassan Idris, the Clerk of the Kaduna State 10th Assembly, directed the immediate reinstatement of Chairman Nasara Rabo.
The letter dismissed the allegations, deeming them without merit.
A source, preferring anonymity, revealed that the suspended Councilors displayed desperation, adamantly refusing to adhere to the guidelines of the impeachment process.
Their resistance extended to denying the Chairman a fair hearing during the investigation.
In a subsequent letter addressed to the Hon. Commissioner Ministry for Local Government Affairs and the reinstated Chairman, the 10th Assembly issued a directive for the continued suspension of the eight local government Councilors.
The assembly emphasized that the suspension would persist until further notice, and the affected Councilors were barred from the Secretariat’s vicinity pending ongoing investigations.
The assembly urged the Ministry to communicate this directive to the affected Councilors and the Local Government Service Board, emphasizing that the suspended councilors should not engage in any official activities during the investigation.
Conclusively, the assembly mandated the suspended Councilors to hand over all government properties to the Secretariat during the period of their suspension, reinforcing the gravity of their actions and the need for a thorough investigation.
