Kaduna Bomb Attack: CNG knocks Senator Yar’Adua over comment, calls for his recall

Published

on

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), on Saturday, lashed out at the comment credited to Senator Abdul’aziz Yar’Adua, on the military drone bombing of civilian population in Kaduna.

They said that the comments on the military aerial attacks on a civilian population in Kaduna by Senator Senator Abdul’aziz Yar’Adua, lacked compassion, pity, and empathy towards the bereaved community and consequently, called for his immediate recall from the Senate.

CNG, in a statement by its national coordinator, Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, said that the recent bomb attack in a Kaduna village has left the nation in shock and mourning after the loss of hundreds of innocent lives.

The CNG lamented that the insensitivity, self-serving, and irresponsible nature of Senator Yar’Adua comments have put the blame on the bereaved community while absolving the military.

He said: “Such remarks show a severe lack of compassion, pity, and empathy towards the affected families. At a time when the nation should unite in grief and provide comfort to the impacted families, Senator Senator Abdul’aziz Yar’Adua statements have only deepened their pain and sorrow.

“It is expected that every leader in this period of mourning should show deep empathy, care and sensitivity towards the affected families. Rather than causing any more pain and anguish to the families, political leaders should unite and work together to prevent such attacks from happening again.”

According to the CNG, the irresponsible remarks on the Kaduna killings by Senator Senator Abdul’aziz Yar’Adua were driven by excessive greed for favours from the Senate leadership at the expense of the lives of innocent Northern lives.

CNG called on voters to be vigilant in the future to guard against returning the likes of Yar’Adua who are unreliable, untrustworthy to any position of responsibility.

The coalition said: “By shifting blame onto the bereaved community, he not only disrespects their suffering, but also fails to acknowledge the magnitude of the tragedy.

“This insensitivity breaches the trust and confidence that the people of Katsina placed in him as their representative. It is imperative that elected officials demonstrate sensitivity and understanding, particularly in times of crisis.”

CNG further called for Yar’adua’s recall from the Senate saying while political leaders should use this period of national mourning to show leadership, compassion, and sympathy to their fellow citizens, Senator Yar’Adua comments have only served to deepen the wound of an already grieving nation.

CNG warned political leaders to remember that their words hold great weight and can have a significant impact on the morale of the nation.

He added, “In times of tragedy, it is important for leaders to show empathy and compassion towards those who have been affected. This is not the time for blame or finger-pointing, but rather a time for unity and support.

“The people of Kaduna are in mourning, and it is imperative that they receive the support they need from their leaders. The call for Senator Yar’Adua recall from the Senate is a clear indication that his comments were unacceptable and lacked the necessary sensitivity required at this time.

“The reputation of the Musa Yar’Adua family has long been associated with integrity, honor, and ethical conduct. However, recent events have brought to light a shocking betrayal of these values by one of its members, Yar’Adua. By descending so low as to lick the boots of the Chief of Army Staff to curry favors in the form of contracts and financial inducements, Yar’Adua has not only tarnished his own name but also betrayed the integrity of the reputable Musa Yar’Adua family.

“The actions of one member can have a significant impact on the reputation of an entire family, and in this case, Yar’Adua actions have brought disgrace upon the Musa Yar’Adua family.

“Yar’Adua actions have wider implications for society as a whole. Corruption and unethical practices erode the foundations of a just and fair society. When individuals in positions of power abuse their authority for personal gain, it undermines the trust citizens place in their leaders and institutions.

“Yar’Adua actions perpetuate a culture of corruption and nepotism, which hinders progress and development. By betraying the integrity of the Musa Yar’Adua family, Yar’Adua has also betrayed the trust of the people who looked up to the family as a symbol of honesty and integrity.”

Security Agencies Must Act On Osun LG Poll Violence – GIT

Published

on

The Global Information Team (GIT) has called on Nigeria’s security agencies to take swift action following the killing of several individuals during the recently concluded local government elections in Osun State.

Anabel Crown, GIT’s Head of Investigation and an election observer, criticised the Inspector General of Police for failing to respond to the violence that erupted in Ilesa East and West local government areas.

According to Crown, gunmen suspected to be affiliated with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) targeted voters and supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on election day.

She described the killings as unacceptable and urged the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take immediate action.

“Some APC top figures are using their influence to sponsor violence,” she alleged, calling for the immediate arrest of those responsible.

GIT has also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene as a democrat by directing security agencies to ensure justice is served.

Crown insisted that “politics must not be a do-or-die affair” and that those behind the attacks should be brought to justice.

Reports of election-related violence have continued to raise concerns about political tensions in Osun State, with opposition parties alleging intimidation and attacks on their members.

The APC is yet to respond to the allegations.

The security team neutralised three of the assailants, including a notorious bandit identified as Ayuba Buzaru. During the operation, they also rescued three kidnapped victims: JafaruAlh. Bawa, 52 years, Delu Alh. Amadu, 40 years, and Huzaifa (alias Zulai) Alh. Bawa, 37 years.

The Silo, which serves as a vital storage facility for grain distribution to Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto states, has been a recurring target for criminals.

Wanted Turji Imposes N22m Levy On Sokoto Deputy Gov’s Village

Published

on

A notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, has imposed a levy of N22 million on four villages in Sokoto State as compensation for the death of one of his men during a military operation, according to local sources.

The affected villages include Garin Idi, the hometown of the state’s deputy governor, Engineer Idris Gobir, as confirmed by the member representing Sabon Birni West Constituency in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Hon. Aminu Boza.

Turji, who has reportedly shifted his base to the eastern part of Isa Local Government Area, also demanded the payment to cover firearms lost during the military operation.

Negotiation with Bandits

According to Hon. Boza, villagers had to negotiate with Turji, who initially demanded N25 million but later reduced it to N22 million.

“He is just like a businessman who has multiple shops and goes around to supervise them. He is currently in the eastern part of Isa. That was where the villagers met him for negotiation,” Boza said.

The lawmaker criticised the military’s approach, stating that their failure to sustain operations in eastern Sokoto had left villagers vulnerable to reprisals from bandits.

“I have always criticised the military for withdrawing after their operations. Each time they leave, it is the villagers who suffer the consequences. The bandits always vent their anger on them,” he said.

Ongoing Security Concerns

Despite multiple visits by the Minister of Defence and assurances that banditry would soon be eradicated, attacks continue in the region.

“Just a few days ago, bandits killed six operatives of the Sokoto Community Guards. I am appealing to the military to intensify and sustain their operations in eastern Sokoto. This is the only way to restore total peace in the area,” Boza added.

In a separate incident, Turji has also demanded a N250,000 ransom from each family of 13 worshippers abducted two weeks ago in Sabon Birni Local Government Area. So far, five captives have been released after their families paid the ransom.
