The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the defection of Mr. Rijo Shekari, a prominent youth politician and community development advocate, to its party.
His entry is being celebrated as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the party’s chances of reclaiming dominance in the Kaduna South Senatorial zone from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr. Shekari, a Commonwealth scholar and UK-chartered accountant, also boasts credentials from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
He cited his commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and a desire to bring his zone closer to governance as key reasons for joining the APC.
In a statement, Hon. Dennis David, an APC stakeholder from Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, described Shekari’s arrival as a game-changer for the party.
“As a Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy Senate President and a member of the presidential committee for the review and implementation of the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund (NYIF), his expertise and network will significantly enhance the APC’s presence in the zone,” David said.
State APC Chairman, retired Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada, also lauded Shekari’s decision, calling him a “valuable asset.”
Jekada highlighted Shekari’s popularity among the youth and his notable efforts in granting scholarships and driving community development initiatives in his local government.
“We look forward to working with him to consolidate on the APC’s development strides under Governor Uba Sani and President Tinubu,” Jekada stated.
While it is unclear if Mr. Shekari will run for office in the 2027 general elections, his defection is already being seen as a boost to the APC’s efforts in the region and across the state.
