The President of Team New Nigeria, Modibbo Yakubun Farakwai, on Tuesday inaugurated key committees to reposition the movement amid delays in its registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Farakwai, who spoke during the event in Abuja, said the inauguration marked a strategic effort to strengthen the group’s political structure ahead of forthcoming electoral activities.

He described the development as a defining moment for the movement, noting that the quest for a “New Nigeria” required resilience, courage and visionary leadership.

The TNN leader announced the inauguration of several committees, including the National Political Engagement Committee, Nationwide Reliability Network Committee, National Policy and Intellectual Engagement Committee, and the National Conference Organising Committee.

He also unveiled mobilisation directorates for women, youths, students and persons with disabilities, emphasising the need to expand grassroots participation.

Farakwai, however, criticised the delay in the group’s registration by INEC, alleging that the commission’s inaction was deliberate.

“We have fulfilled every constitutional requirement and met every statutory obligation for registration, yet we are facing an inexplicable delay,” he said.

He described the situation as a “tactical retreat by a terrified establishment”, insisting that the movement would not be discouraged.

According to him, TNN has activated high-level engagements to form a coalition with existing political parties as an alternative pathway to electoral participation.

“Our National Political Engagement Committee is already in advanced talks to ensure that the TNN vehicle has a clear pathway to the ballot,” Farakwai said.

He stressed that the movement was open to partnerships but would not compromise its core values of equity, justice and competence.

Farakwai further claimed that TNN has over 43 million registered members across the 774 local government areas and 8,809 electoral wards in the country.

“We are not just a movement; we represent a formidable political force with nationwide grassroots presence,” he added.

The TNN president also announced plans to convene a National Ratification Conference on April 8, 2026, which he said would attract millions of members and thousands of delegates.

He charged newly inaugurated committee members to intensify mobilisation and political engagement, declaring that the movement remained determined to achieve its objectives despite institutional challenges.

“The delay will not stop us. Whether through registration or coalition, our voices will be heard,” Farakwai stated.
