The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in the wee hours of Sunday declared Hon. Jude Ngaji winner of the Ogoja/Yala federal constituency by-election.
Announcing the result, the returning officer of the election, Dr. Edor John Edor of the Department Philosophy, University of Calabar, said, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) scored a total number of 22, 778 votes to defeat his closest rival, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 20, 590 votes.
According to the commission, 9 political parties participated in the exercise.
“By the power investment in me as the returning officer of this election. I hereby declared Mr. Jude Ngaji of the APC returned elected for Ogoja/Yala federal constituency by-election, having scored the highest number of votes.
“Mr. Jude Ngaji scored the total number of 22, 778 to defeat the candidate of PDP, Mr. Mike Usibe, who scored 20,590 votes.
“We have 9 political parties that participated in the election”, Dr. Edor said.
APC won in 16 while PDP won in 10 wards respectively.
The election however witnessed massive turnout of voters across the polling units.
The election was conducted under the peaceful atmosphere and heavy presence of security operatives.
According to the PPRO state command SP Ugbo Irene, said 5200 police men were deployed for the election.
