The Ohanaeze Youth Council has warned former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, to desist from actions it described as undermining aspirants of the African Democratic Congress loyal to Peter Obi’s presidential ambition.
In a statement issued in Owerri on Tuesday, the group’s National President, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, alleged that it had uncovered a coordinated plot against Obi’s supporters within the party’s Imo chapter.
Igboayaka claimed that tensions had escalated following disagreements between senatorial aspirants and Ihedioha over the latter’s alleged support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s bid for the ADC presidential ticket.
He further alleged that Ihedioha had adopted a “strategic posture” to avoid public backlash in Imo State, while quietly backing Atiku’s ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the development has deepened divisions within the party, with two camps emerging — one backing Obi and the other aligned with Atiku.
The OYC said supporters of Obi within the party were insisting on zoning the presidential ticket to the South-East, citing equity and rotation principles.
However, it accused Ihedioha’s camp of rejecting zoning and mobilising loyalists for various elective positions in a move it claimed could weaken Obi’s support base in the state.
Igboayaka called on Ihedioha to publicly clarify his position on the South-East presidential project within 24 hours.
He urged the former governor to openly support the region’s aspiration and refrain from actions capable of undermining party cohesion in Imo State.
