In a statement released on Thursday, the board’s Director of Shariah, Sirajo Kamba, said the arrests took place on May 20 in the Filin Idi area of Birnin Kebbi. He described the alleged acts as contrary to Islamic teachings and societal moral values.

He added that the board also raided a house in Gesse Phase 2, Birnin Kebbi, where seven women and two young men were found. Several other suspects reportedly escaped by jumping over a fence.

In a separate development, the Nigeria Immigration Service handed over 23 foreign nationals to the Hisbah Board for further investigation. According to Mr Kamba, Immigration officers discovered the individuals during routine patrols aimed at identifying illegal immigrants and non-citizens.

“A number of young men and women were found roaming under suspicious and indecent circumstances,” he said. “A total of 23 persons were subsequently handed over to the Hisbah Board for further investigation and necessary action.”

The board has confirmed that investigations into all cases are ongoing.
