The Independent Hajj Reporters has called for urgent measures to tackle conflicting information ahead of the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage.

The organisation said information overload had become a major challenge to the smooth coordination of Hajj operations.

The call was contained in a communique issued after the 2026 Hajj Lecture and Awards held at the National Mosque Auditorium, Abuja.

The communique was signed by Muhammad Suleiman Tola and Garba Muhammad, who served as rapporteurs of the event.

IHR said the volume of information generated during Hajj operations required stronger monitoring and coordination.

To address the challenge, the organisation said it had established a Media Monitoring Team to track operations and services in real time.

The group also drew attention to the approaching deadlines for the 2027 Hajj, urging all stakeholders to commence preparations early.

IHR said Hajj and Umrah had evolved beyond religious obligations into significant economic activities.

It identified transportation, aviation, accommodation, hospitality, catering, healthcare, finance, retail and logistics as areas with opportunities for Nigerian businesses.

The organisation said efficient service delivery was essential to protecting Nigeria’s image and ensuring that pilgrims’ welfare remained the priority.

It also commended security agencies for their role in protecting pilgrims and officials, while calling for greater cooperation among stakeholders.

On financing, IHR advocated greater use of Islamic financing for Hajj, Umrah and related businesses.

It also proposed the establishment of a Nigeria-Saudi Halal Investment Forum to promote trade, commerce and investment between both countries.

The organisation recommended establishing a healthcare facility in Saudi Arabia for Nigerian pilgrims, subject to applicable Saudi regulations.

IHR further called for increased patronage of Nigerian airlines for Hajj operations, in line with Saudi requirements.

It also encouraged local production of Hajj essentials, including bags and Ihram clothing, as part of efforts to create economic opportunities in Nigeria.

The organisation urged tour operators to adapt to emerging trends and challenges while maintaining satisfactory services for pilgrims.
